Blockchain technology has become a familiar foundation for “play and earn” games.

Many blockchain games have been released recently. One of them is Gods Unchained (native token: GODS). It is a competitive card game similar to Hearthstone and Legends of Runeterra. Because Gods Unchained runs on blockchain, players actually own their cards as if they were real and tangible.

Gods Unchained (GODS) is a free, competitive blockchain-based card game that rewards users for their time. Players must outsmart opponents by creating powerful decks and using a variety of tactics. Gods Unchained gives players ownership of all in-game items, meaning they can trade, sell, or use them any way they want, just like in the real world.

It’s reported that gamers spent $87 billion on in-game assets in 2019 alone. But how much did gamers make from their purchases? Exactly zero U.S. dollars. Competitive card games like Hearthstone, Runeterra and Magic: The Gathering Arena are popular, but do not give players ownership of their digital assets. These companies only license cosmetic items in the form of skins and card shirts.

Gods Unchained wants to change that by giving players full ownership of in-game assets. The game issues cards and other assets on the Ethereum network in the form of non-exchangeable tokens (NFTs). Because NFTs are immutable, the developers of Gods Unchained cannot change the value and characteristics of cards or take them away from players.

The beta version of the game was launched in 2018. The game is built on the Ethereum blockchain and has a native ERC-20 token called GODS. The token functions as the currency of the game universe and is used to conduct transactions and pay for transactions. The platform also uses Ethereum’s smart contract technology to create NFTs, which are collectible in-game assets.

Although the game is fairly new, Gods Unchained is often compared to other popular card games like Magic: The Gathering or Hearthstone. Incidentally, the game’s development is led by Chris Clay, formerly game director of MTG Arena and executive director of Wizards of the Coast LLC. Clay left Wizards in 2018 to focus on developing Gods Unchained.

In Gods Unchained, players battle in competitive arenas for glory points and spots on the leaderboard. They create decks, participate in matches, and buy and sell cards. The game is completely free (no pay-to-win here). It is primarily focused on a fair competitive spirit.

New players receive 140 cards as a welcome bonus. Beginners are given different cards to diversify their base decks. Users can unlock more cards by playing and participating in tournaments (whether they win or lose).
